Empire State Information Fluency Continuum Endorsed by New York Library Association

The following letter was sent to Rebecca Gerald, President of the School Library System Association:

January 24, 2013

Dear Ms. Gerald:

I have had the opportunity to review, at length, the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum. This comprehensive tool, developed by the New York City Department of Education/Office of Library Services School Library System and adopted and endorsed by the School Library Systems Association of New York State, has already become the standard which defines information literacy and helps to define the inquiry skills essential for student success.

The New York Library Association has added its endorsement to the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum. I am pleased to join with you and the individual school library systems which have already endorsed this important Continuum. The Benchmark Skills for Grades K – 12 Assessments/Common Core Alignment require the widest distribution and will be critical to the use of curriculum resources to plan the Common Core lessons necessary to develop student learning objectives. I am pleased with the enormous effort demonstrated by the work of school librarians on the Information Fluency Continuum and honored to join those endorsing this essential effort.
